Women and Masturbation

Sex and the CitySex and the CitySex and the City” helped take away the stigma of the masturbation.

Don’t believe me?

Take Samantha from “Sex and City”, for example. She personally made vibrators and massagers popular in the multiple episodes by having multiple orgasms on her own. Even the normally prude Charlotte got into the Vibrator act when her friends were forced  to stage an intervention to stop her from playing with her sex toy so often.

Now, there are chain sex toy shops in strip mall after strip mall across the country (with the exception of course where sex toys are banned  ), but according to this study by the University of Chicago, not as many women are actually masturbating as you might think.

In the study, only 38% of women admitted to having masturbated in the past 12 months. The statisticians believe that the low figure could be partially because some women were too ashamed or felt too guilty to admit to having masturbated in a face to face interview and I am hopeful that that is the case.  The study also indicated that younger women were more likely to have masturbated than their older counterparts.

Whether you are single or in a relationship, there are lots of good reasons to masturbate.

-The health benefits of masturbation are great. Statistics show that it is easier for women to have an orgasm when they are alone, maybe because there is less “pressure”. Masturbating to orgasm can alleviate stress, keep you healthier, and even lengthen your life span.

-It is easier to orgasm with a partner if you have “experience” masturbating by yourself.

The Internet is full of useful tips on female masturbation  and if you are fortunate enough to live in a big city, you can even take a class on hand jobs, like at the female-friendly sex toy shopBabes in Toyland.  Of course, if you are already shy about masturbating alone, taking a class on masturbating and hand jobs might not exactly be your style.
