Unfortunately, it’s not always practical to storm out the door in a huff with no real destination in mind. Breaking up With Your Friends

Broken HeartBroken Heart

W. Somerset Maugham once said, "It's no good trying to keep up old friendships. It's painful for both sides. The fact is, one grows out of people, and the only thing is to face it"

While this quote is not always true, I am a firm believer that people should have the ability to choose who we have close to us (with the exception of our families who we are inherently stuck to like super glue whether we want to be or not) and that we all should be able to put a little distance away from people who aren’t exactly empowering as friends.

Unfortunately, that is easier said than done.

For many of us, it’s easy to break up with a boyfriend, but not so easy to end a friendship.

Should Tiger Woods' Infidelities Matter to the American Public?

Has Tiger Woods' Infidelity Really Hurt Your Family?Has Tiger Woods' Infidelity Really Hurt Your Family?
Does the fact that Tiger Woods cheated on his wife with prostitutes and porn stars affect your marriage? I sincerely doubt it, and believe that Tiger Woods cheating on his wife has nothing to do with my family, your family, or anyone else’s family, but his own.

A male writer at the NYT disagrees. Robert Wright’s basic opinion, which he hammers repeatedly throughout his column, is that monogamous marriage matters, and therefore, Tiger Woods’ indiscretions matter to your marriage as well.

First, the writer states that monogamous marriage matters because the alternative would be divorce and single parent families.

Rielle and QuinnRielle and Quinn

Everyone is talking about Rielle Hunter, who was the mistress of John  Edwards and now the proven mother to his biological daughter and presumed love child, Quinn. In her exclusive GQ interview for which she accepted no money, Rielle discusses her relationship with John Edwards, how she met him, and what she really thinks of Elizabeth.

Still in her early 40’s, Rielle is attractive, wears a size 2 jeans, and is seemingly open about her relationship with John Edwards who she first met at the Regency hotel bar with friends.  She is very clear that she did not make the first move.

Mr. Mom and the House Husband Phenomenon

Mr. Mom- The Ultimate Stay at Home DadMr. Mom- The Ultimate Stay at Home DadMichael Keaton was once Batman, and also formerly “Mr. Mom”. Of the two roles, I think   most would agree that Batman was the more glamorous of the two as not every guy wants to be home changing diapers while his wife is away at work. However, due to the “economic downturn” (also termed more ominously as ‘the recession’), more men are out of work and thus, making the natural  (and initially forced) choice to stay home with the children.

Women and Masturbation

Sex and the CitySex and the CitySex and the City” helped take away the stigma of the masturbation.

Don’t believe me?

Take Samantha from “Sex and City”, for example. She personally made vibrators and massagers popular in the multiple episodes by having multiple orgasms on her own. Even the normally prude Charlotte got into the Vibrator act when her friends were forced  to stage an intervention to stop her from playing with her sex toy so often.

Valentine's DayValentine's DayValentine’s Day......What can I say?

I am an atypical chick and a little weird about my feelings towards the holidays.

I’ve hated Valentine’s Day ever since I got the mandatory little cards in Elementary School from little, dirty boys who truthfully thought I was icky because I kicked them on the playground.

How Necessary is Foreplay for a Woman to Reach an Orgasm?

Love FeetLove FeetIn what I am assuming is an Onion-style satire article (a pdf is linked about half-way down the page), the Oklahoma Partisan Real-Ass Fake-Ass News reported that a female lawmaker had backed a mandatory foreplay proposal, calling for all men to perform a minimum of ten minutes of foreplay before intercourse.  As usual, the bill was divided across party lines with one male representative claiming that the female orgasm is little more than a myth.

Marriage and Contented Cow Syndrome

Contented Cow SyndromeContented Cow SyndromeAn older friend was the first to let me in on the sad phenomenom of “contented cow syndrome” or the reality that once singles become couples, they get a little more comfortable, chew on their cud, sit on their couches, and gain what is usually the equivalent of the freshmen fifteen. Science, being a little late to this reality, has just confirmed this sad fact.

According to this NYT article, a recent study found that a 140 pound  childless single woman will gain 11 pounds over ten years, a married (or partnered) woman who has had a kid will gain 20 pounds over the same ten years, and 11 pounds if she is married but has no kids.
